Stages, Proteinuria and Progression

What is CKD?

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) means your kidneys are not working as well as they should, for a period of time. Kidneys normally filter waste and extra fluid from your blood. When they don’t work properly, waste can build up in your body.

Why it matters:

  • CKD often develops silently with no symptoms in early stages.

  • If not treated, it can lead to serious health problems such as heart disease, anemia, and even kidney failure.

Signs and symptoms (may appear in later stages):

  • Fatigue or weakness

  • Swelling in ankles, feet, or hands

  • Foamy or bloody urine

  • Shortness of breath

What you can do:

  • Get regular blood and urine tests if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or family history of kidney disease.
  • Control blood sugar and blood pressure to protect your kidneys.
  • Avoid smoking and excess salt in your diet.
  • Stay in touch with your doctor for follow-up care.

Direct Access Nephrology is committed to recognize CKD in early stages and provide a treatment plan to avoid worsening kidney damage and delay dialysis.
Artificial Intelligence Nephrology Consultation: A nephrology consult is initially done through the Artificial Intelligence Nephrology software developed at Direct Access Nephrology. This cutting edge scientific tool will help you get blood work and urine tests, if you do not have them, and evaluate if you are at high risk of worsening kidney function which may need dialysis. The goal is to evaluate and treat complications of CKD to delay Dialysis. After the AI Nephrology Consultation a follow up visit, either through Telemedicine or in person, will be arranged with a Kidney specialist.
